
The Easy Accounting Solution for the Photographer
So many people are curious about what our product is, why we created it, and how it’s useful to them. I’ll start by giving you a basic description of what our product is: it’s a spreadsheet that is set up to use in Excel with pretty much everything that a photographer might want to track! Everything from clients – addresses, phone number, referrals, birthdays, etc to invoicing, to tax deductions, to income/expenses, to a job status tracker. The job status tracker is one of my personal favorites as a photographer – it helps keep me stay organized and know where I stand on each and every client – which ones need welcome packets sent out, which sessions still need edited, purchase sessions scheduled/completed, orders sent, etc. It tracks everything that I need as a photographer all on one spreadsheet!
Now, I’ll admit that I’m not an accountant and I had no idea where to begin… and that’s how this product came about. I contacted an accountant, Andrea, who is now my business partner! She understood exactly where I was coming from and was able to create this great spreadsheet for me. It took us quite awhile to get it just right! Every time we thought we had it perfect I would think of something else that would make it just a little bit better and she would fix it, and then we’d repeat the process! After we got it finalized I had a group of photographers test it out for themselves and provide us further feedback. Andrea then made all of the finals adjustments, and now we are here to help other photographers who feel totally lost in the business, take control of their accounting.
Like I said, I’m not an accountant, so even though she created this amazing spreadsheet – I still didn’t know what everything was that needed accounted for, so she created a very detailed Word document that explains everything in great detail!!! It couldn’t get any easier – if you are able to follow a recipe than you can definitely use our product. For example, the assets tab, on our spreadsheet – I knew what assets were, but I didn’t know the best way to keep track of them, so Andrea explained in the word document what assets are and how to track them, so that when tax time comes you can use them as a deduction! Every tab on our spreadsheet has detailed explanations and instructions in case you aren’t clear what it means. Even if you think you know everything Andrea may have made recommendations that you hadn’t even thought of keeping track which can definitely help you when it comes tax time.

When deciding how much you want to price your portraits and products do you wish there was an easier way to add mounting, shipping and print costs and then multiplying it to see the cost? Our spreadsheet allows you to quickly and easily see your cost plus the markup from double the price up to ten times the price! This helps you when you are creating packages or trying to determine your pricing. The spreadsheet covers so many aspects of the business, and you may find that you don’t need to track every aspect and that is totally fine, but it’s there for those businesses that want to.
